This painting was inspired by Mokoli'i Island also known as Chinaman's Hat, located on the Windward Side of O’ahu.
Mokoli'i is said to be the name of the lizard killed by the goddess Hi'iaka, and she tossed his tail into the ocean and it now protrudes out of the water, which became the island Mokolii. It is a significant and loved island especially to the people who reside on the a Windward side of the island.
